25 Days of Advent - Gratitude

Sometimes, gratitude is hard to give and sometimes to accept from someone. When you thank someone for something, do you say it from the heart? Or do you say it more out of reflex? Do you thank God for everything in your life, big or small, from your heart or out of reflex? I think sometimes we only thank God when something really big and good has happened. I thank God every day for winning the battle of breast cancer and my wonderful family in my prayers. And I say these thanks from the heart. But we need to give thanks to God for all things....great and small that occur in our lives. I know I find myself thanking God for the smallest things....like a beautiful sunset. And when we show gratitude to someone, whether they did something big or small for us or just for them being in our lives, we need it to also be sincere and from the heart...the same way we show our gratitude to God for things he has done for us and being in our lives. I know when I pray to God, I always thank Him for listening to me and being with me. We should always show gratitude for what we have, who we are and what we can do for others in this world. Think with your brain...but always speak with your heart.


Philippians 4:4-9 "Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you."
