25 Days of Advent - PREPARE

Prepare by Linette Gedon

Prepare is a word with several definitions, so what you think when you hear it will depend on the context. Are you going to make ready, put in a proper state of mind, work out the details, plan in advance, put together or get ready?

The simple checklist is one way we prepare to pick up groceries in order to provide nourishing meals for the family. In this pandemic many are using click lists for grocery pick up or delivery, this requires planning and preparation. We go to great lengths to plan for our physical nourishment. We sit and plan menus, scroll through Pinterest hoping to find something new to make mealtime special for those we love.

Do we put the same thoughtful preparation into our spiritual lives? Do you prepare your hearts for worship on Sunday morning or do you just open Facebook at 10:00 or as close to 10:00 as possible? Do you sleep in and listen to the service at a more convenient time or while working on household chores? In this time of pandemic being intentional about our worship is crucial, are our priorities correctly aligned? If we find time to plan and prepare for our physical needs, it is even more critical that we plan and PREPARE for our spiritual needs. Paul reminds us in today’s scripture passage that nothing else is important, what matters is knowing Christ!!!

Take time today to prepare a spiritual checklist. This should enable you to glorify God in every moment.

Philippians 3:7-14(Message) The very credentials these people are waving around as something special, I’m tearing up and throwing out with the trash—along with everything else I used to take credit for. And why? Because of Christ. Yes, all the things I once thought were so important are gone from my life. Compared to the high privilege of knowing Christ Jesus as my Master, firsthand, everything I once thought I had going for me is insignificant—dog dung. I’ve dumped it all in the trash so that I could embrace Christ and be embraced by him. I didn’t want some petty, inferior brand of righteousness that comes from keeping a list of rules when I could get the robust kind that comes from trusting Christ—God’s righteousness. I gave up all that inferior stuff so I could know Christ personally, experience his resurrection power, be a partner in his suffering, and go all the way with him to death itself. If there was any way to get in on the resurrection from the dead, I wanted to do it. Focused on the Goal I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward Dear Lord, You alone are Holy and worthy of praise. Forgive me for making life all about me and my family, and what I perceive as our needs. Please take the proper place of being first in my life so that all I do points others to you. Help me to PREPARE my heart every moment of the day to receive you and serve you. Thank you for allowing us to humbly come before you through your son, Jesus. Amen
