25 Days of Advent - Remember

Remember - Sean Francisco

This photograph is of my father a few short months before his passing. Dad was at peace with his mortality by this point. My father was always happiest and most at peace when he was by the ocean. I frequently look at this picture and wonder what he is thinking. Dad was awe-inspired by the power of God's works. I have often thought he is reflecting on his earthly life, as well as, his Eternal life to come.

Memories are powerful. They can bring us to tears, belly laughter, confusion, anger, and even self judgment. Sometimes, we remember things regardless if we want to or not. Pains we have suffered, wrongs we have committed, regrets and bad choices. We certainly should not take lightly or for granted those pains and life lessons. Because if we do not learn from the histories we create, we may not remember to make better choices and be better people with every passing day.

Something we need to constantly, tirelessly, and passionately REMEMBER is God's foretold and delivered promise. He sent his son Jesus Christ to walk among us, provide us with the great commandment to love one another, to die for our sins and deliver us from the earthly evils we suffer all around us. I think of such things with this image. I remember my father, and his sacrifices, and his love. I see him reflecting and remembering his life and the promise he made to God. Both, us together and apart, he and I remember what this season really means. Christ has come.

Please make it your intention on this day, and all those to come, to remember your Heavenly Father and the good works he has done for you. Remember he has prepared a place for you. You can relish and rejoice in that fact! Make great memories with your life and your own good works...love one another. And always REMEMBER, that even though there will always be some bad and painful memories, they are finite. Remember that your eternity will be peace and comfort if you only trust in your Father Almighty.

Psalm 105: 1-6:

"Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done. Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts.

Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.

Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.

Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced,

you his servants, the descendants of Abraham,

his chosen ones, the children of Jacob..."
