RENEW - by Linda Bertsche
When we lived in Haiti Jim and I often hiked in the mountains to renew our souls and minds. Something about the "view from on top", the cooler air and the wide and long-ranging views helped me put things into better and clearer perspective. Such beauty consistently affirmed my belief that only our Creator could have put together a display such as this.
Zephaniah 3: 15-17 (excerpts) says "Rejoice and exult with all your heart, O daughter of Jerusalem! The Lord has taken away the judgements against you...Do not fear... let not your hands grow weak. The Lord, your God, is in your midst...he will rejoice over you with gladness, he will renew you in his love. "
The focus of Christmas is God in our midst. The event of Jesus' birth, this act of God's great Love, birthed a Relationship in which "the judgements against us" can be taken away, renewing us in God's love.
And may it be so.
“Forget the former things;
do not dwell on the past.
See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
and streams in the wasteland.
