“Listen” definition– to pay attention to sound; to hear something with thoughtful attention; to be alert to catch an expected sound.

Can you image being there at the first Christmas? I look at the center picture and listen to the first cries of the newborn baby Jesus. I can hear the animal sounds and suddenly I hear the angels singing and proclaiming the good news!

As I sit and think about Christmas’s Past, I can hear the kids excited laughter as they open their gifts. I hear the kids taking part in the various Christmas Programs at Church and at School. I hear Christmas songs being sung by the Carolers and many other memories.

Now let’s look at Christmas Present. I see the Advent Wreath and listen to the messages for each Candle. I ponder what each candle stands for: Hope, Love, Joy, Peace, and the Christ Candle. The evergreens that circle the candles symbolizing God’s unending love.

Repeatedly in Scripture we see commands to listen.

Take a look at a few of them: Proverbs 1:5, Matthew 17:5, Luke 10:16, Acts 13:16

Listening is an act of Love – By listening to others, we show them our love.

Here are just a couple examples: James 1:19, Psalm 34:15, 2 Timothy 3:16-17

Listening in Ministry - Faith comes by hearing the Word of God. It is only by the truth revealed in Scripture that people are changed,

Check out these verses and others: Psalm 34:11, Romans 10:17, Proverbs 18:13

Listening to God God promises that we can gain wisdom and understanding when we listen to Him. To listen to God, we must first be open and willing to receive His word. His words are alive and speak to us as we read the bible and pray. He wants us to talk to Him and He promises to listen to us as well.
