This week's sermon title was "What's in a Name?" When Matthew wrote his gospel, he included a massive genealogy of Jesus, but he did it from the side of Joseph. In that genealogy, we find that Joseph, the one who is betrothed to Mary, is descended directly from David--that is King David.
A question that we can all ask ourselves is, what difference would it make if we were descended from royalty? Would that make a difference in our lives? Would it make a difference in how we lived and what we did?
I'll make this short and sweet and get right to the point. We are descended from royalty--all of us. Through Christ, we all became Children of God. We are all royalty. How does that make a difference in how we live? Does it make a difference in how we live? What if I told you that you can change the world by just being the person God made you to be? God living in you can make positive change in our world.
There are so many distractions around Christmas and it keeps going. Marketers are very good at their jobs. You've probably heard the term, "commercialism," bing associated with Christmas. That is because places of business are doing their very best to get you to spend more and more to show your loved ones that you love them.
But the reality of all of it is that love does not cost anything and that the real reason for celebrating Christmas is that because of Christ, we are Children of God, and because of Christ in us, we can be who God created us to be. And because of that, we can change the world for the better.
So, in Christ, go be the person God has called you to be!
