Because There's a Better Way!

"Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!” Mark 1:14-15

So we've been doing a study of the Sermon on the Mount, the Beatitudes, and have come to what appears a rather dramatic shift in focus. The first three are internal, self-reflection blessings that are essential to the rest of the journey.

(1) Am I Poor in Spirit

(2) Do I Mourn the person I've become.

(3) Am I Meek, not weak, and willing to change.

This is all internal work. Notice how radically different it is from the 10 Commandments, establishing God the author and perfecter of our life, faith and purpose.

Today we look at reaching out, hungering and Thirsting for Righteousness. Why is this so necessary? Let's take a look at the Human Condition...

We begin with the assumption that many of us are in pain today, drifting, divided, angry, unhappy, unfulfilled, not because we have not tried to find pleasure, direction, happiness and satisfaction, Lord knows we’ve tried. We are miserable because we have been looking for fulfillment in the wrong places, feeding our hungers with cheap substitutes while attempting to base our lives on lies rather than on deep spiritual TRUTH. We come to church empty, numb, lonely and deeply skeptical. This generation has seen a dramatic increase in clinical depression, anxiety, and longer work weeks and marital dissatisfaction and despite unprecedented increase in prosperity, life expectancy, entertainment and leisure time.
