Board Meeting for 01/18/21
Living | Authentic Leadership
“Authentic” means genuine, not false or to pretending. It is what it claims to be, real, trustworthy, reliable; being an obvious and accurate representation of the truth. So authentic Christian leadership is an honest, heart-felt desire to follow Jesus, to imitate Jesus and to share Jesus beyond Sunday into every day. It's truth-telling in the most vulnerable ways in all areas of life. Our goals is to live in such a way that those who know us but don’t know God, will come to know God because they know us.
Big Question: Are there areas in our lives, our church and our faith in which we say one thing but do another?
Scriptural reference: You, God, prescribed the right way to live; now you expect us to live it. Oh, that my steps might be steady, keeping to the course you set; Then I’d never have any regrets in comparing my life with your counsel. Psalm 119:7 MSG
Learning | Intentional Leadership
Spiritual Leaders are self-motivated, forward leaning disciples, energized by both an optimistic vision and a God-sized calling. Leaders are learners, disciples and servants of Jesus to whom they are accountable. Leadership is not a privilege but a huge responsibility. Leaders ask God-sized questions, and then wrestle with the answers through prayer, study and dialogue.
Big Questions: What are the challenges we currently face for which we presently have no answer but must address if we're to live into God's preferred future for us?
Scriptural reference: “Whoever hears these sayings of Mine and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on a rock.” Matthew 7:24
Leading | Servant Leadership
Titles mean nothing. The one with a servant’s heart is the leader. Servant Leaders know from personal experience the fulfillment and energy that comes from rolling up your sleeves and quietly cleaning up the messes without being asked. Leaders take initiative to improve or enhance the effectiveness of any and every ministry team.
Big Question: Given this reality, what can I do to make things better now?
Scriptural Ref: But Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them. But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Matthew 20:25-28
