Well by now Easter has come and gone, the eggs have been found, the candy devoured, the flowers have faded, and the crowd has dwindled from the curious onlookers to the committed disciples. Each year when Easter ends some people will simply pack it all up and put it on a shelf as one holiday fades into another. There are a few, however, who catch a glimpse of the Cross and are so overwhelmed by the power of its message, they dig a little deeper, risk a little more and eventually find their own empty tomb moment, that moment when the hardships of the past become an open door to a better future. Each year we retell the Easter story in the hope that someone else will find their open door.
"Once the soul awakens," John O'Donohue wrote, "the search begins and you can never go back. From then on, you are inflamed with a special longing that will never again let you linger in the lowlands of complacency and partial fulfillment. The eternal makes you urgent. You are loath to compromise or the threat of danger hold you back from striving toward the summit of fulfillment." How well does this describe you?
What does this new life look like? Well, it looks a lot like what happens when 13 youth take a bold and courageous stand and announce to the world their intention to live as Easter people. Before a packed house, they shared their stories, were baptized and proclaimed their desire to be more than just fans of Jesus. They stepped through the open door Jesus offered them, a life modeled by their parents and peers, and celebrated by the church. It's times like this when you realize that despite all the bad press and distractions, the church's message and mission really is the best hope for a broken world.
Now I know there are probably some adults out there who are reading this who have no yet had this experience, but desperately want to know they were made for more than paying bills and getting by. They want to know their life really does matter to God!
If that's your story, and you're ready to go looking, you've come to the right place. You see, We believe you were Made for More. The question is, Do You?
