Sunday, October 13, 2019 - UnCommon Church
One question every church and every Christian must ask themselves is, "Am I a real Christian? Or am I counterfeit?" We most closely associate the term "counterfeit" to our money. When our money is made, they weave in different kinds of fibers and colors so that it looks different in different kinds of light. Have you ever paid for something in a store and handed them a bill and they took a marker out and marked on the bill with it? They are checking to see if it is real or if it is counterfeit.
Now the question is, is there a way to test for counterfeit Christians and churches? There are three things that can identify counterfeit Christians and churches.
1.) The Counterfeit Christian and church has a divided heart. They're not putting God first. They're doing as they please. They come to church as they please, they put other things before God.
2.) The Counterfeit Christian and Church is all about passive worship, thinking that the Bible is a myth. It is sitting back and letting others do the real work of worship. It is just passively singing hymns or praise songs without heart or mind involved, not listening in church - just coming to church to get our weekly dose of holy and receive our get out of hell free cards.
3.) The Counterfeit Christian and Church has a consumer mindset. There is a giving without sacrifice. If we believe that we come to church as a pay to play act, we are completely in the dark about what being a Christian is all about. Being a Counterfeit Christian and Church is giving without sacrifice - thinking it is all about ourselves, and therefore being selfish.
The UnCommon Church is different. The Uncommon Church has different qualities about it.
1.) The Uncommon Church has clear priorities. This kind of Christian puts God first. This kind of Christian gets up on a Sunday morning and goes to church because of a decision made on Saturday night. The Uncommon Christian has God as number one and top priority and comes to church in order to meet God and hear what God has to say to them.
2.) The Uncommon Church is about personal growth. The uncommon Christian is one who knows that their come to Jesus moment was just the
beginning of something bigger - the beginning of an adventure that will require our entire lives. This Christian is one who does not stop growing in Christ and in their faith. This Christian is one who wants to hear the voice of God in their lives and wants to keep learning about God and what God wants for them.
3.) The Uncommon Christian lives a visionary life. The uncommon Christian is one who knows that life is so much more than what we do for a living. It is one who knows that we are made for more than where we are right now. This Christian knows that it is an all or nothing life.
We are meant to be real Christians. Don't settle for the counterfeit life!
